Teams looking past Retell AI usually arrive with one of three questions. Can we get the same control for less at our call volume? Can our operations team run voice agents without engineers? Or, more and more often in the Gulf: can someone build the whole agent for us, connect it to our UAE numbers, and run it in Arabic and English while we get on with the business?

Each question leads to a different kind of product. This guide covers six Retell AI alternatives across all three, with the prices each vendor publishes on its own site, checked on 4 October 2026, and the requirements that decide the choice when your callers are in the UAE and the wider GCC.

xAIa publishes this guide and ranks itself first for the third question. xAIa is a Dubai-based AI consultancy that is working on its voice AI infrastructure, while also deploying on Vapi as a listed Vapi service partner. Read it the way you would read any comparison written by an interested party: every price below is the one the vendor published on its own pricing page on 4 October 2026.

Why teams look for Retell AI alternatives

Retell AI is a platform for automating phone calls. It pairs a visual flow builder with APIs and SDKs, and lists SIP trunking, Twilio and Vonage among its telephony options. Teams that move on usually do so for one of three reasons.

Cost at volume. Retell publishes a range of $0.07 to $0.31 a minute for voice agents and itemises its voice infrastructure, the language model, speech synthesis and telephony as separate components. At 100,000 minutes a month, that range spans $7,000 to $31,000, so the model and voice behind the agent decide the bill.

Who does the work. On any platform, your team designs the call flows, writes and tunes the prompts, builds the integrations and watches the calls once they are live. That work sits comfortably with a team of voice engineers and usually means hiring or outsourcing for a team without them.

Regional fit. For Gulf deployments the questions change: whether the agent holds up on Gulf Arabic and on Arabic and English inside one sentence, how it connects to UAE numbers and an existing PBX, and how outbound campaigns meet the UAE's telemarketing rules. The answers depend as much on how the agent is built as on which platform runs it.

Best Retell AI alternatives in 2026

xAIa (best for UAE and GCC enterprises that want the agent built and run for them)

xAIa is the AI consultancy and implementation arm of PRO TECHnology Group, based in Dubai. It designs, builds and deploys AI employees for every department, across voice, WhatsApp, chat and back-office work. It works one layer above Retell: xAIa delivers the finished agent, connected to your UAE numbers, your CRM and your escalation rules, and stays on to run and improve it. The connection to your systems runs on Agent API, xAIa's own integration layer: the AI employee follows the same screens, fields and rules your trained staff use, and a separate supervisor agent checks every entry before it is saved. Across its deployments, xAIa's AI employees have handled 600,000+ calls in a routine month, with a record month of 750,000 calls and 63+ agents in production. They speak 90+ languages, including Gulf Arabic dialects, and respond in about half a second, and deployments typically move from pilot to production in 30 days, on-premise, in-region or in the cloud as the mandate requires.

Pricing: scoped per deployment. Talk to the team.

Vapi (for developer teams that want full control of the stack)

Vapi is the closest like-for-like swap for Retell: an API-first platform, pitched as voice agents for builders, where you choose the transcription, model and voice providers and pay for them at cost. That flexibility suits engineering teams that want to tune every layer themselves. xAIa also deploys on Vapi, so weigh our view of it accordingly.

Pricing: $0.05 a minute for Vapi hosting, with transcription, model and voice passed through at cost. Paid success packages start at $29 a month, and included concurrency rises from 4 calls on the free tier to 30 on Pro.

Bland AI (for high-volume outbound calling)

Bland AI sells its platform in tiers defined by concurrency and daily call caps, a model shaped around outbound calling at volume. For outbound in the UAE, the rules apply whichever platform dials: consent, the Do Not Call Register and calling hours belong in every campaign design, as set out in our guide to TDRA, DNCR and PDPL rules for voice AI in the UAE.

Pricing: $0.14 a minute on Start with no platform fee (10 concurrent calls, 100 calls a day), or $0.12 a minute on Build at $299 a month (50 concurrent calls, 2,000 calls a day). Enterprise is contracted to your volume.

Synthflow (for enterprises that want a visual builder under contract)

Synthflow describes itself as an end-to-end voice AI platform with in-house telephony, with a visual Flow Designer for defining each step of a call and connecting APIs. Its pricing page lists a single enterprise plan, with contracts starting at $30,000 a year, and hosting in the EU and US. It fits a team that liked Retell's visual builder and wants a contracted vendor relationship.

Pricing: enterprise contracts from $30,000 a year. The pricing page lists the enterprise plan only.

ElevenLabs Agents (for products where the voice itself leads)

ElevenLabs is known for speech synthesis, and ElevenLabs Agents puts its voice library behind a conversational agent platform, with the language model of your choice. It fits products where the way the agent sounds is the deciding factor.

Pricing: plan-based, with included agent minutes from 15 on the free tier to 12,375 on Business, then $0.08 a minute. Language model usage is billed separately on top.

Twilio ConversationRelay (for teams already running telephony on Twilio)

ConversationRelay adds a voice agent layer to Twilio's telephony, with speech recognition and synthesis around a language model you plug in. It fits a company whose numbers already terminate on Twilio. Conversation design, integrations and monitoring stay with your team.

Pricing: $0.07 a minute, with Twilio voice charges billed separately at standard rates.

How to choose a Retell AI alternative

Start with who will run the agent, then where your callers are and what it will really cost, and finish with how it writes to your systems.

  1. Who will build and run the agent? If you have voice engineers, a platform such as Vapi or ConversationRelay gives them control of each layer. If an operations team will own it, a visual builder such as Synthflow fits. If neither team exists, a managed partner such as xAIa builds the agent and stays accountable for it after launch, and our guide to managed voice AI vendors covers that route in depth.
  2. Where are your callers, and what do they speak? Ask each vendor to run a pilot on recordings of your own calls, in the dialects your callers use. The UAE requirements are set out in the next section, and our guide to Arabic voice AI that is fluent in Khaleeji covers what to listen for.
  3. What will it really cost? Per-minute rates cover different things. Some include the model and voice, some pass them through, and most leave telephony out. Price the full call at your actual volume and concurrency, then add the people needed to monitor and improve the agent.
  4. How will the agent write to your systems? Ask each option to show a call being logged in your own CRM: the caller matched to the right customer, every required field filled and each value checked before it saves. An integration that saves whatever it hears leaves duplicates, gaps and wrong values for your team to fix by hand.

The right alternative is decided by who will run the agent after launch. A platform is the better value when your own engineers will tune it every week, and a managed partner is the better value when no one in-house has the time or the voice AI experience to do it. Price both against the same number: what each resolved call costs at your actual volume, with the people included.

What changes when your callers are in the UAE

Most comparisons of Retell AI alternatives are written with US callers in mind. In the Gulf, four requirements carry as much weight as the platform itself.

  • Arabic as callers speak it. Gulf dialects, and Arabic and English mixed inside one sentence, are the hardest test for any voice agent in the region. Passing it takes voice selection, dialect-aware prompting and testing against recorded calls, on top of whatever languages the platform lists.
  • UAE numbers and telephony. Numbers arranged through licensed operators, SIP trunks into an existing PBX, and routing to the right extension. We cover the options in the four routes to connecting voice AI agents to UAE phone numbers and SIP trunks for voice AI agents.
  • Outbound rules. Telemarketing in the UAE falls under Cabinet Resolution No. 56 of 2024 on the Telemarketing Regulations, and personal data under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021. Consent, the Do Not Call Register and calling hours belong in the campaign design from the first call.
  • Where the audio lives. Some mandates require call audio to stay in the country or inside your own infrastructure. Settle that requirement first, because it narrows the vendor list on its own. Our guide to data residency for GCC customer conversations sets out the options.

Where xAIa fits

xAIa is for organisations that want an AI employee answering their phones and WhatsApp without building a voice engineering team to get there. We design the agent around your call types, connect it to your numbers and systems, and tune it for the dialects your callers use.

The part that sets xAIa apart is Agent API, the integration layer we built ourselves. Before the AI employee says a word, Agent API identifies the caller and pulls their file from your CRM. During the call, the AI employee fills the record the way your trained staff would, field by field and under your rules, and a supervisor agent checks every entry against the conversation before it saves. When something is missing, the AI employee asks the caller while they are still on the line. Agent API works with the CRMs, ERPs, helpdesks and in-house systems Gulf enterprises already run, inside the boundaries your IT and compliance teams set. In one UAE retail and home appliances deployment, AI employees run inbound service, extended warranty, dealer complaints and feedback on a single CRM, and the phone team moved from eight people to three.

After each call, your team can see what happened and why. Every outcome is written back to your system with the summary, transcript and recording link, every entry carries an audit trail of what was entered, checked and corrected, and anything the AI employee could not confirm is logged with a note for the right person. ComplAI, our compliance intelligence platform, reviews every call against the rules that govern it. Where we have deployed, our AI employees have run at enterprise volume: a single anchor client, a UK utility and energy brokerage, handles 350,000+ calls a month through xAIa.

For developer teams that would rather build in-house, Vapi is the closest like-for-like platform.

Is Vapi better than Retell AI?

They suit slightly different teams. Vapi charges $0.05 a minute for hosting and passes transcription, model and voice through at cost, which rewards teams that want to pick each provider. Retell itemises its own voice infrastructure, model, speech and telephony within a published range of $0.07 to $0.31 a minute and adds a visual builder. xAIa also deploys on Vapi as a listed service partner, so weigh our view accordingly.

Which Retell AI alternative is best for Arabic callers?

xAIa. Its AI employees speak 90+ languages, including Gulf Arabic dialects such as Khaleeji and Saudi, and they follow callers who switch between Arabic and English inside one sentence. xAIa deploys on-premise, in-region or in the cloud as the mandate requires, protects callers' personal data with PII redaction and encryption, and connects each AI employee to your CRM through Agent API, which checks every entry before it saves. Test it before you reach out: call our AI receptionist on +971 4 34 66 990, a live xAIa deployment.

Can Retell AI work with UAE phone numbers?

Retell lists SIP trunking, Twilio and Vonage among its telephony options, so UAE numbers arranged through a licensed operator can be connected over SIP. Most of the UAE-specific work sits around the platform: carrier and PBX routing, dialect handling and the outbound rules.

How much does an AI voice agent platform cost in 2026?

Published per-minute rates in this guide range from $0.05 for Vapi hosting, before providers, to as much as $0.31 at the top of Retell's range, and Synthflow's enterprise contracts start at $30,000 a year. Most rates exclude telephony. Compare the total cost per resolved call at your own volume, including the people who monitor the agent.
